We understand the importance of staying active as you age – especially for the people in Summit County and the surrounding mountain communities who enjoy the Colorado outdoors and the active lifestyle that comes with it. We want to keep Summit County residents active and pain free so that you can continue to hike, ski, bike or just keep up with your kids or grandkids.
Decades of active lifestyles, previous traumatic injury or genetic predisposition can all affect the cartilage in the hip and knee joints and can eventually lead to osteoarthritis. As arthritis progresses it leads to pain and stiffness that often interfere in activity levels and eventually people may even give up doing the things they love.
With advancements today, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many options to get joints feeling good again. From injections to joint replacements, our fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons who specialize in joint replacements are here to keep Summit County’s residents close to home when they need expert joint care. Our surgeons in Summit County offer both conservative treatment for joint pain and minimally invasive techniques for joint replacement.
Summit Orthopedics’ joint replacement experts will collaboratively work with you to determine the best route to recovery. For many people, the best solution for hip or knee pain might be injections, bracing or physical therapy. Sometimes, hips and knees require joint replacement surgery to provide the best relief from pain and help you return to optimal activity levels.
Joint Replacement Options
During a joint replacement surgery, the worn parts of the hip or knee joint are replaced with an implant to provide smooth function and pain relief. Every joint is different, therefore your surgeon may use a different method for replacing your joint to give you the best possible outcome. Some of those possibilities are:
- Anterior Hip Replacement– Anterior hip replacement is performed through a small incision on the front side of the hip and replaces the worn out parts of the joint cartilage that cause pain.
- Posterior or Traditional Hip Replacement– Posterior hip replacement is also known as a traditional hip replacement option, this surgery is done through an incision on the back side of the hip joint and replaces the worn out parts of the joint cartilage that cause pain.
- Total Knee Replacement– Total knee replacement replaces the worn out parts of the joint cartilage that cause pain to the knee. This surgery is performed through an incision on the front of the knee joint and replaces all parts of the knee joint.
- Partial or Unilateral Knee Replacement – partial or unilateral knee replacement replaces only the compartments of the knee that contain the worn out joint cartilage that causes pain, this means that you keep any of the three knee compartments in your joint that still have a good foundation of cartilage in your knee to move smoothly.
Our team is dedicated to keeping you in Summit County and helping you Feel Better so you can Do More.
