Trauma

The truth is, accidents happen when one least expects it. Whether it’s a fall skiing or snowboarding, a car accident, a trip hiking or a slip on an icy sidewalk  – we are here for you Summit County! Our team is the only orthopedic trauma team in Summit County that is available for orthopedic injuries 24 hours a day 7 days a week,  365 days a year.

Summit Orthopedics has hand-picked our team for their unique orthopedic trauma experience in some of the highest acuity trauma centers in the country.

And while the Summit Orthopedics team will be in Summit County 100% of the time, we will also have some of our Panorama Orthopedics trauma experts up in Summit County, as well. In fact, we’ll do whatever it takes to provide the very best care for the people who live in Summit County or those visiting from around the world.

Our trauma physicians specialize in treating fractures, ligament injuries of the shoulder and knee, hand and arm injuries and foot or ankle trauma.

Integrated Trauma Care - It's What Sets Us Apart

The integrated trauma partnership between Summit Orthopedics, Panorama Orthopedics & Spine Center and Centura Health accepts patients from referral hospitals across the state and around the region.  The most complex orthopedic trauma cases come into St. Anthony Hospital in Denver.

The partnership with  “Flight for Life” provides air-ambulance transportation between the facilities. St Anthony’s Hospital is only a 30 minute ride away from St Anthony Summit Medical Center and teams are in constant communication as a patient is transported between facilities. That way, the moment a patient lands, a trauma team is already assembled and waiting. Not a minute is wasted in providing the most advanced care to patients with serious and life-threatening injuries.

It is this integration in care that provides the most optimal outcomes.  From care in Summit County in the on-mountain clinics, to the team at Summit Orthopedics working in the Summit Hospital, to the team at Panorama Orthopedics working in St Anthony’s Level 1 Trauma Center. We are all connected and it is our goal to provide the very best care to every patient who needs our services.

Watch Mike’s Story to see the result of the integrated trauma partnership we have with Summit County.

Mike was the coach of the Canadian Freestyle Ski team when he had a tragic accident at Keystone. He was paralyzed as a result. Today, he is skiing again!

Regional Trauma Experts

Hospitals are classified by their ability to handle trauma cases. The most severe, life or limb-threatening trauma cases — including those requiring orthopedic surgery — are sent to Level 1 trauma facilities. Hospitals with this designation are required to have a trauma surgeon physically in the hospital 24 hours a day, and consultants available within 20 minutes if needed.
