Medical icon L. Brian Barnett, D.O.

L. Brian Barnett, D.O. is a fellowship trained board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physician who specialize in non-operative treatments of sports, musculoskeletal and spine injuries. He takes a holistic approach to patient care, focusing on the root cause of injury and pain while developing a comprehensive treatment plan.

Dr. Barnett uses multiple technologies, often combined, to make complete and accurate diagnosis and to deliver treatments with a high level of precision. Common conditions he sees include joint arthritis, knee meniscal injuries, hip labral tears, hamstring tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff injuries, elbow tendinopathies, carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical and lumbar radiculopathies, and back and neck pain due to facet arthritis.

His treatment options include traditional interventions (such as radiofrequency ablations and steroid injections) and newer techniques using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow-derived signaling cells (BMAC). These interventions, often referred to as “regenerative” or “orthobiologic” treatments, utilize the patient’s own cells to facilitate and augment the natural healing process and decrease inflammation in a variety of orthopedic and spine conditions.

He is a Colorado native who was born in Del Norte, Colorado and attended Monte Vista High School. Always drawn to the outdoors, Dr. Barnett worked as a ski instructor at Sunlight Mountain Resort and a rafting guide on Clear Creek and the Arkansas and Colorado Rivers. He left Colorado to serve in the Navy, then went on to complete his B.A. in African History and European Colonialism at San Francisco State University. After serving in Morocco as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Youth Development and Education sector, he returned to the United States to pursue his medical education. He attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, then completed residency at the University of Kentucky. From there, he traveled back to the West Coast for fellowship training in Interventional Spine, Sports and Regenerative Medicine at the esteemed Bodor Clinic in Napa, California. After years in the making, Dr. Barnett is thrilled to be able to return to his home state and care for the residents of Summit County at Panorama.

When not caring for his patients, Dr. Barnett enjoys cycling, alpine skiing, hiking, reading a quality book, collecting vinyl records with his wife, and watching in amazement as his four-year-old daughter develops new language and violin skills.
