Here in Summit County, we’re passionate about mountain sports. We’re skiers, climbers, hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners, and avid adventurers, all of which puts us at increased risk for foot and ankle injuries. As a former competitive cross country ski racer, Dr Xan Courville understands the importance of helping you get back to the activities you love as quickly as possible.
Dr Courville is board-certified and fellowship-trained in foot & ankle surgery, a sub-specialty of orthopedic surgery that specializes in diagnosing and treating injuries and conditions of the foot and ankle. She also has additional training in trauma, making her a trusted resource for the most complicated and serious foot and ankle injuries that require immediate treatment.
Here in Summit County, foot and ankle injuries are so prevalent that Summit Orthopedics wanted to have a foot and ankle specialist available on staff. Dr. Courville cares for patients of all ages, from kids to adults and specializes in arthroscopy, tendon repair, ligament repair and fusions, complicated ankle replacements and foot reconstructions. She also performs more common procedures for bunions and hammertoes.
Dr Courville is a foot & ankle expert who understands the biomechanics of the foot and ankle in relation to your entire body. This is important because your body works as an integrated whole. Failure to treat a foot or ankle condition properly can result in long-term instability, extended pain and a decrease in your athletic performance. The best plan of action when you’re dealing with an injury to a foot or ankle is to have it evaluated. Correct, timely treatment can even help you avoid potential long-term problems such as permanent nerve damage or a bone deformity.
Our goal is to partner with you in your care so you can make an informed decision about your treatment plan. We take the time to carefully explain your condition and all of your treatment options, including conservative and surgical approaches. While our orthopedic foot & ankle surgeon is trained in the latest surgical techniques, she starts with conservative treatments, whenever possible.
Conservative treatments may include bracing, modifying footwear, orthotics/ inserts, physical therapy, injections or medications and sometimes boots or casts. Only after these less invasive approaches have been explored, does our specialist recommend surgery. If surgery is necessary, we are partnered with Summit Medical Center to offer the top care in Summit County.
